There never seem to be enough hours in the days anymore, especially when one of those 60ish birthdays whiz by! As we age, WHEW…it really hits you front and center at the most random times how the years are zipping by! Do you have these moments too?
This past weekend, I embraced a new year to twirl into and delighted it’s an even number. Odd numbers have never sat right with me and I have no explanation why. I created this quick photo collage done in Procreate to share some of what gives me creative excitement and joy.
Sometimes these newsletters flow out easily and other times, I have gotten sucked into a self doubt bog like with this one with too much rewriting. As I navigate this new journey on Substack writing this blog, it takes time to figure what the magic puzzle pieces are to make it resonate with you all and myself. Thank you for your patience and hanging in here with me!
WHAT A CAR!
I saw this car on my walk the other day and it seems appropriate to share it now. The artistry in this jeweled masterpiece is magical, brilliant, bodacious, and brave! This car is the perfect reminder of how to boldly be you in life! CARPE CREATIVITY!
Doodling is like breathing to me now!
Everyday, I get out my black brush pen and sketchbook with breakfast to tuck in this spontaneous time to let my imagination explore the characters that need to flow on to the paper.
Meerkat Had A Boundless Imagination
Balancing seems to be a theme lately in my doodles. For some reason, a narwhal along with a meerkat had been stuck bouncing around in my head so out they came stacked up like this! The mouse holding the apple is random and nonsensical.
Swan Had A Whale Balancing Her Thoughts
As I continue on this quirky balancing theme, a swan stepped in with weighty thoughts of a whale! The boulders on other side were entertained and the seagull had to say something.
Joppa The Cat
On my daily walks, I see many dogs but rarely a cat out and about. I was surprised the first time this pet stroller came along with this 14 year old dignified feline!
Joppa is adored and his family had to find a way to chase away the blues that were aging him before their eyes. An idea sparkled before them as an old dog in a pet stroller zoomed by them one day and off they went to buy one.
Joppa hesitated momentarily when they presented him with this strange thing with wheels…but only for a moment. They zipped him in and the big wide world of the outdoors unfolded before him with all the sights, sounds, and smells!
He is a changed cat and happy everyday!
This Wing drawing was done in a moment of overwhelming memories!
The Hummingbird
My dear friend’s mom was in the transitional time of leaving this beautiful world after living a magnificent and joyful long life. I knew her beginning in my teenage years and on. Ri always welcomed me into their home and lives with open arms.
As I held the pencil in my hand when I heard the news, (as we were 1600 miles apart) it seemed as if we were connected through a brilliant ray of sunshine that lit up my studio table! A hummingbird flowed onto the page!
I will miss you, Ri!
